Saturday 30 March - Greens given Hope

Hendon pulled 7 points clear of the drop zone with five matches remaining of the season with a vital 2-0 win at play-off chasing Poole Town.

In a match low on quality but with plenty of endeavour Ryan Hope celebrated his representative call-up with the opening goal after 78 minutes, drilling a low shot into the corner of the net before substitute Ogo Obi made the game safe in stoppage time with a trademark free-kick from 20 yards.

The result moves the Greens up to 15th place in the table.

Thursday 28 March - Deadline day moves

With the Southern League registration window slamming shut an hour ago, James Gray has made some final tweaks to his squad.

Junior Osborne has rejoined the club from Kings Langley. Supporters will recall that Junior began the season with the Greens before moving to the Hertfordshire club at the end of September.

Also joining the club is 29 year old goalkeeper Chris Grace who joins on dual registration from Bracknell Town. Standing at 6'4", Chris goes straight into the squad for Saturday's visit to Poole Town.

Meanwhile, Howard Hall has signed for Potters Bar Town, also on a dual registration basis, in order to get some more regular game time.

We welcome Junior and Chris to the club and wish Howard all the best for his time with the Scholars.

Wednesday 27 March - Under 23s victorious last night

John Creith and Finlay Johnson's Under-23 side beat Step 4 side Hertford Town 3-1 in their friendly last night in a game which also gave one or two of the first-team a chance to get some minutes under their belts.

Ogo Obi and Bilal Sayoud (2) were the goalscorers for the Greens who also saw Howard Hall gain 90-minutes (along with Obi and Sayoud) and Callum Ellesley play 45-minutes as we enter the all-important run-in.

Wednesday 27 March - Hammond returns

James Gray has moved to further strengthen the squad ahead of the registration deadline with full-back James Hammond returning to the club from Chesham United.

Hammond, who played a key role in our escape from relegation in 2017/8 and then the run-in to the play-off final last season, left the club in the summer to join Gary McCann at Hampton & Richmond Borough after making a total of 31 appearances over the two spells.

Having failed to nail down a first-team spot at the Beveree, James moved to Chesham in December, making his debut for the Generals in their 1-0 victory at Silver Jubilee Park on New Years Day.

We warmly welcome James back to SJP and hope he enjoys his current spell with the club.

Sunday 24 March - 150 up for Tingey

Yesterday saw Luke Tingey pass 150 appearances for the club.

Luke signed for the club following his release from MK Don's on the eve of the 2015/6 season, making his debut in the first game of that season at Grays Athletic. Aside from a few weeks at St. Albans City last summer he has been with us ever since and has scored five goals for the club.

Congratulations to Luke on his milestone and we hope to see him add many more to his tally.

Saturday 23 March - 9 Man Greens find Harts broken

Hendon fell to a 2-0 defeat this afternoon against Hartley Wintney at Silver Jubilee Park.

Mitchell Parker had given the visitors an early lead before Greens goalkeeper Andrew McCorkell saw red for a lunging challenge.

A second goal early in the second half from Michael Campbell was the only time the stand-in goalkeeper Lee Chappell was beaten and although the Greens had a couple of free kicks courtesy of Charlie Smith tipped over the top before Matty Harriott also saw red following a late challenge in the closing stages.

Friday 22 March - Under 23s are Champions

The Under-23s were named champions of the Middlesex County league on Wednesday night following their nearest challengers, Hayes & Yeading United, drawing 2-2 with Harrow Borough.

The result means that John Creith and Finlay Johnson's side cannot be caught and means that they can celebrate an outstanding success in their first season together.

Our congratulations go to John, Finlay and all of the players, many of whom have made first team appearances this season, and we hope to see all of them back next season to defend their title.

Wednesday 20 March - Under 23s goalless

The Under-23s, including four members of Joe Pascoe's Under-18 side produced an excellent and encouraging performance last night in drawing 0-0 with Marlow's first XI.

The hosts, who are odds-on for a play-off spot at Step 4 in the Bostik League South Central Division were well matched by the young Greens in a thoroughly entertaining game.

Our thanks go to Marlow and their manager, Mark Bartley, for their help in setting up the fixture and we wish them well for their promotion push.

Tuesday 19 March - Injury Update

Kerry Guthrie has kindly provided us with an update regarding the current injury situation at the club.

Romario Jonas missed Saturday with a recurrence of the ankle problem which saw him miss a lengthy period out earlier this season. He is responding well to treatment and could be in consideration for Saturday.

Darren Locke has a back injury which is currently being treated and under rest.

Matty Newman picked up a long-term injury in the autumn however he is now back in training and got 90 minutes under his belt with Edgware last week.

Guri Demuria is back in training with the squad after the knee injury sustained at Dorchester, however he is unlikely to play again this term.

Callum Ellesley is fit and played for Edgware Town on Saturday to get some minutes under his belt.

Kerry will endeavour to provide updates on a regular basis going forwards, our thanks go to her for this progress report.

After signing on the eve of the season's opener, Gianni went on to make 32 appearances, scoring twice including the vital winner at Swindon Supermarine. Saturday 16 March - Greens go nap at Staines

Hendon picked up another vital three points in their battle against the drop coming away from already relegated Staines Town as 5-2 victors this afternoon.

Connor Calcutt opened the scoring in the 9th minute with a header, an advantage that was doubled by a Luke Tingey strike on 25 minutes. Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick made it 3-0 from the penalty spot before Calcutt tapped in to give the Greens a 4-0 half-time advantage.

Matty Harriott added a fifth ten minutes into the second half and as the Greens took their foot off the gas, Andy Juett and Lewis Lavender were able to grab a couple of second-half consolations for the hosts.

The win takes Hendon up to 16th in the table, four points above the drop zone.

Next up, in-form Hartley Wintney visit Silver Jubilee Park next week.

20-year old centre-half Callum Ellesley is the latest to join the squad, putting pen to paper yesterday.

Sunday 10 March - Walk for Spencer McCall

As some fans may have picked up, news was released late last week that our former midfielder Spencer McCall has been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma.

His current side, Hemel Hempstead Town are organising a fundraising walk from Watford's Vicarage Road Stadium to Hemel's Vauxhall Road ground on Easter Monday - 22nd April 2019 - ahead of Hemel's Vanarama South fixture with Weston Super Mare and leaving the Premier League club's home at 10am. They have invited fans and staff of all of his former clubs to take part on all of, or part of the route if they would like to help raise funds for Spencer to help him through his treatment.

Spencer joined Hendon at the beginning of the 2016/7 season from Harrow Borough and made 30 appearances for the club, scoring twice, before joining neighbours Wingate & Finchley later that season. A hard-working and classy midfielder, Spencer always made time for a word with supporters before and after matches and was a hugely popular figure with his team-mates.

The full route for the walk will be published on the Hemel Hempstead Town website in due course and we will provide it here for any interested fans. In the mean time, a Just Giving page has been set-up to support Spencer and anyone who wants to and is able to donate can find the link here

Everyone at the club would like to pass on their best wishes to Spencer as he begins his treatment and wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Saturday 09 March - Greens terra-rised in Dorset

Hendon's latest road-trip ended in disappointment as they were beaten 3-0 by Weymouth on the South Coast this afternoon.

As with the recent home game, the hosts showed a greater cutting edge to secure a win that took them to the top of the division.

Ben Thompson opened the scoring just past the half-hour mark, a lead which Yemi Odubade extended in the 63rd minute. Calvin Brooks wrapped things up with the third late on to pick up a crucial three points.

The defeat leaves Hendon just two points and two places above the drop zone and will be looking to get back on track at Staines next Saturday.

Saturday 09 March - Tyriq moves on

There was another departure from the squad earlier this week as Tyriq Hunte moved to North Leigh.

One of the first signings in the summer, Tyriq scored on his debut against Walton Casuals and went on to make 18 appearances for the club, fifteen of which came as substitute.

As well as spending time on dual registration with Edgware Town and Hanwell Town, Tyriq was also an integral part of John Creith and Finlay Johnson's successful Under-23 side this season.

We thank Tyriq for his efforts this season and wish him luck for his future endeavours.

Thursday 07 March - Under 23s take a step towards the title

Last night the Under-23s took a large step towards claiming the Middlesex County League title by beating their nearest challengers Hayes & Yeading United 4-0 at Silver Jubilee Park last night.

Ben Gray opened the scoring with a beautifully taken free-kick before Khalil Francis added a second after a free-kick was headed down into his path.

Francis then turned provider for Alfred Achaempong with a lovely reverse pass for the midfielder to finish neatly to give the hosts a 3-0 half-time lead.

Francis completed the scoing in the second period with another well-taken finish to leave Finlay Johnson and John Creith's side requiring a single point from their remaining two games to clinch the title.

Their next scheduled game is on Wednesday 27th March against Hanwell Town at SJP, with kick-off at 7:30pm. We are still awaiting a date for our visit to CB Hounslow.

Wednesday 06 March - Sayoud arrives, Boness departs

Jimmy Gray has moved to make a couple of changes to his squad with one player arriving and one departing.

Departing is goalkeeper Danny Boness who returns to Hemel Hempstead Town following the expiry of his loan agreement. Danny, who was signed on the eve of the season, went on to make 39 appearances between the sticks and will be remembered in particular for a series of excellent and crucial performances during our strong start. We wish Danny all the best for his future career and thank him for his efforts whilst with the club.

Saturday 02 March - Vital three points claimed

Hendon picked up a crucial 3 points in their fight against the drop by beating fellow strugglers Basingstoke Town this afternoon at Silver Jubilee Park by the only goal.

In a game high on effort but low on quality, it was a strike from Charlie Smith just past the half-hour mark that made the difference, his first goal for the club proving the winner.

Both sides created opportunities without really working the opposition goalkeeper until late on when Andrew McCorkell made an excellent stop to preserve Hendon's lead. The victory, Hendon's first at home since December 1st, lifts them above their opponents and up to 14th place, albeit just 3 points above the relegation zone.
