The February 2021 newsletter has been released by Silver Jubilee providing an update on events in and around the ground during the past few months and how they are coping with the pandemic.

On This Day: 31st January

We reach January’s end in our look back at matches on this day in history and begin in 1920 with an Athenian League match at Metrogas which ended in a 3-1 win, J Hall (2) and F Yates with the goals.

On This Day: 30th January

The penultimate day of January has seen less action than other days in the month with just thirteen competitive matches and a single friendly, with which begin.

On This Day: 29th January

We move our retrospective onto 29th January and begin in 1910, the club’s second season, when they suffered a setback in their pursuit of a second consecutive title in the Finchley & District League Division 2, going down 3-1 to local rivals Totteridge.

Today we look at the 28th January and after a day of misery followed by a day of merriment, today’s lot over the past 112 years has been somewhat more balanced and measured.

After the doom and gloom of yesterday’s look back in history, today’s provides us with rather more in the way of happy memories and a lot fewer miserable defeats to look back on.

We move our ‘On this Day’ series on to January 26th and a day that has provided little succour over the past 91 years or so.

Today’s look back on this day in history, 25th January, begins in 1913 when Hampstead Town took on Waltham in a Middlesex League Premier Division fixture and won 5-1.

24th January sees the busiest day yet in our look back across matches played in our history and we begin in 1914 and a 1-1 draw at home to Barking in the league.

Instead of visiting Hayes & Yeading United this afternoon, we’re left with another look back in history and have a look at what happened on the 23rd January on this day.

On This Day: 22nd January

For the second day in a row we begin our retrospective with a Middlesex Senior Cup defeat in 1921 away at Barnet.

On This Day: January 21st

21st January 1922 is where we begin today’s retrospective look at Hendon on this day and a local derby in the Middlesex Senior Cup against Barnet which was won 1-0 by the Bees.

On This Day: 20th January

Our series of retrospectives moves on to 20th January, a day of mixed fortunes with wins, draws and defeats as well as a couple of dismissals.

On This Day: 19th January

Following the relative success-laden dates of 16th, 17th and 18th January, today’s retrospective is a touch more sober with fewer wins and a much higher percentage of matches lost and drawn.

Episode number 12 of our retrospective look back at games on this day in history takes in the mildly successful date of 18th January where, following an awayday heavy day yesterday, the split is slightly more even.

It wasn’t until 1982 that the Greens hosted a match on 17th January, the first seven fixtures on this day all took place at home.

On This Day: January 16th

Today’s ‘On this Day’ features the equalling of a club record and is, to date, the most successful date in the club’s history that has been covered so far in the series.

We begin our look back at on-field events on 15th January by going back a full century to find the first occasion on which the club played a game on this date and Hampstead Town duly opened proceedings in exciting style as then were held to a goal-less draw by Southall in the Athenian League at The Avenue ground.

Our ‘On This Day’ series moves on to 14th January and begins with the club’s first game against local rivals Wealdstone in a Middlesex Junior Cup tie in 1911 which was saw the Stones draw first blood with a 1-0 win.

We are saddened to have learned of the passing of long-term supporter Les Skinner who passed away yesterday following a short illness.

Our latest retrospective sees us have a look at Hendon in action on 10th January and for the first match on this date we drift back 106 years to 1914 when Hampstead Town took on Page Green Old Boys in a League match and won 2-1 thanks to goals from Alec Tompkins and Bill Hooper.

On 9th January 1974 the national spotlight shone on Hendon Football Club like it never had before as the BBC TV cameras descended on Watford’s Vicarage Road in the midst of the three-day-week to take in the FA Cup 3rd Round replay against Newcastle United.

Southern League Statement:

The Pitching In Southern League have today released a further statement regarding the current pause in the season and have postponed all games up to 6th March.
