Last Saturday Golders Green obtained the first war-time league point they have had from Walthamstow Avenue when the two sides met at Claremont Road. A draw was a fair reflection of the play. Walthamstow had the better of the exchanges in the opening half, but after the change of ends, Golders Green had a far larger share of the game.
The Green made an early attack, and as Roberts advanced, Chappell shot just wide of the post. At the other end Sealey tackled Brett just in time, and prevented him from shooting accurately, only a few yards from the goal line. Half time came without score.
Both goals were scored through lapses on the part of goalkeepers, who otherwise played sound games.
Golders Green restarted with some heavy pressure : Childs headed out from under the bar a shot by Munday, and then, after 25 minutes' play, Gallacher, who was the outstanding player on the field, put in a long shot which Roberts dropped ; CHAPPELL ran in and scored from close range. Soon afterwards, Bucci had a good chance of making the game safe when, well placed, he received a centre from Stroud, but his shot went over the top.
After 35 minutes, with the Avenue trying desperately to equalise, LEWIS gained possession and shot, low ; Sale appeared to have the ball covered, but it went over his hands into the net.
