Golders Green last Saturday defeated St. Albans, then runners-up in the Herts and Middlesex League, 4-3. The victory was more definite than the score indicates, since, with 10 minutes left for play, the Green held a 4-1 lead. This was St. Albans' first home League defeat since September 5.
The game started in sensational fashion. Within three minutes, PIPE fastened on to a ball from a goal kick and shot home to give St. Albans the lead, to which they clung grimly for 35 minutes, when Stroud put the ball across to Yates and from his pass BUCCI beat Hall with a good shot. The interval score was 1-1.
Early in the second half Pulling got right through, Hall parried his shot, but PULLING by converting Haskow's pass gave the Green the lead. Later Pulling tapped the ball to BUCCI who scored. A few minutes afterwards PULLING, receiving the ball from the left, went through to score the Green's fourth.
Hall cleared a drive from Yates and then St. Albans broke away and gained a corner from which ROBINSON shot through a ruck of players to make it 4-2. There were only about 10 minutes left for play, but encouraged, St. Albans went swarming in front of the visitors' goal, and were awarded a penalty, apparently for some infringement by the Green's goalkeeper. RICHARDSON with a spot kick made the score 4-3.
