One goal scored after about a quarter of an hour's play enabled Walthamstow Avenue to annex both Herts and Middlesex League points at Claremont Road on Saturday.. The game was hard fought throughout, and considering the state of the field the football was fast and of a high standard.
Golders Green, if anything, had slightly more of the play territorially, and at times it seems that the Avenue's citadel must fall, though the home side, too, had a few narrow escapes.
The winning goal came when the visitors launched a heavy attack. Stidder made one good save, and then punched out a second shot, but the ball appeared to swerve backwards, falling a few yards in front of the goal -- at BRETT's feet. He kicked it into an open net.
In the second half Golders Green piled on the pressure but failed to score.
