Golders Green put up a good show at Wealdstone on Saturday when they shared eight goals.

The only change made in the side which narrowly lost to Tufnell Park the previous week, was T. Kay, at left-back, for McGuire, who, incidentally, this week joins the Forces, and will no longer be available.

But it was the attack, not the defence, which showed such improved form. In contrast to the previous week, the Wealdstone pitch was in perfect condition, and a lively game of football developed, full of thrills and much good play.

After Wealdstone's early attacks had been repulsed, Cochrane got away and pushed the ball to Griggs. The centre-forward quickly passed to Stroud, and from his centre PULLING netted, to give the visitors the lead after 12 minutes play.

Hart, who played a brilliant game throughout, and to whom much credit goes for the point gained, made two saves, one from Campion and one from Dyke, before a second Green attack developed. Pulling started the movement, and put in a low centre from which GRIGGS rammed the ball home to put the Green two up.

Wealdstone reduced the arrears within a couple of minutes. They were awarded a free kick just inside the Green's half. Green took an excellent kick and DYKE headed the ball out of Hart's reach into the net.

Within five minutes Wealdstone were on terms. Green put the ball through to CHARLTON, who headed an excellent goal.

Hart fumbled a long shot from Green - almost his only slip the whole afternoon -
and conceded a corner: from the clearance H. Kay gained possession and passed to BIRBECK, who, with a fine turn of speed, got through on the left and slammed the ball past Doherty from an acute angle to score a brilliant goal - the best of the match. He nearly scored another, but this time the ball went across the goal, just past the far upright.

Wealdstone equalised shortly afterwards when a centre by Dolding led to a melee in front of goal, and DYKE put the ball past Hart. Just before half-time the home side gained the lead. Butterworth, who played a great game at left-half for Wealdstone, put in a stinger which Hart parried. The ball went to DYKE who thus completed his " hat trick ."

The interval came without further score, Wealdstone leading 4-3. Golders Green scored what proved to be the last goal of the match when Kay put to Cochrane. The winger passed right across the field to Breagan, who passed to BIRBECK for the inside-left to score a good goal. After Wealdstone had forced three corners, the Green should have scored again. Griggs put to Cochrane, and Doherty just parried the shot. The ball fell almost on the goal line, but Griggs, running in, fell over the ball, and Leeming was able to clear.

Towards the end, Wealdstone tried all they knew for a deciding goal. Hart made a brilliant save from Dyke and three further cat-like clearances within a few minutes. Upchurch tried a long one which went wide, and then Griggs got right through but shot wide.

Just before the final whistle, Wealdstone got away on the left, but Dyke's stinging shot went just wide.

Birbeck, the Green's inside-left, caught the eye as a sound and promising footballer. He should prove an asset to the forwards. Hart's display has already been mentioned, but the whole of the Golders Green side worked well and deserve much praise for a fine display against strong opposition.
