At Claremont Road on Saturday, in a game of wasted chances, Golders Green lost to Tufnell Park by two goals to one.

It was when they had the ball near their opponents' goal that the lack of combination and resource among the Green forwards was most conspicuous and after keeping Tufnell Park penned in their own half for the greater part of the game, it was rather remarkable that Golders Green lost.

The " Tufs " kicked off and Hart was immediately called upon to save from Long. He cleared and the ball went to McGuire, who kicked into touch when hard pressed by Westwood.

For a few minutes Golders Green continued to defend stubbornly against a fast forward line, but about five minutes after the game started Tufnell Park had taken the lead. Carrying the ball before them by a series of short accurate passes, the Tufnell Park forwards advanced on the Green goal. Schofield cleverly side-stepped out of the way of McGuire and flicked the ball to WESTWOOD, who calmly deflected it past Hart to put the " Tufs " in the lead.

From then until the interval Golders Green attacked continuously but their ferocious midfield tackling and robust, if slightly reckless, passing came to naught when they were near the goal.

Three times in ten minutes the Green had taken the ball almost to the Tufnell Park goal-line and always a melee developed and the ball was eventually cleared.

After half-time the play developed on almost the same lines, but the Green, who were playing much better than they did in the first half, were up against an improved Tufnell Park defence, in which Martson and Bustard were prominent.

Breagan narrowly missed equalising when he drove a fast shot towards the top of the goal, but Marston touched it over the bat. A little later Kay shook the goal with a full-blooded drive which hit the base of an upright.

In the middle of the second half the game took a dramatic turn and Westwood again scored for Tufnell Park. Lynch gathered the ball near his goal and sent it up the field to Simpson, who rounded Cochrane and then flashed the ball to WESTWOOD in the centre. The centre-forward took the ball towards Hart and had no difficulty in beating him.

The ball was re-centred, and the Green again took the offensive, and after a while their efforts were rewarded. GRIGGS took the ball through, dashed in between the Tufnell Park backs and banged the ball into the net, so reducing the arrears for the Green.

Golders Green continued to dominate the game but Tufnell Park held out and the game ended with the " Tufs " claiming a narrow and rather lucky victory.
