The author has, to date, been unable to find any report on this match, therefore a match report in its usual format for the club website cannot be produced.

The result is known and is correct. It can be calculating Golders Green's total record for the other 25 Athenian League matches and comparing those totals to the final table.. It is also given in the results grid for season 1938-39 in Mike Wilson's "The Athenian League 1912-1939", which Mike published some years ago.

As to the Golders Green line-up, for all 11 matches played following the Middlesex Senior Cup Final victory over Wealdstone on 10th April 1939, the club's Selection Committee endeavoured as far as possible to play that cup-winning team.

It is known that Bucci suffered a head injury, for which he required hospital treatment, in the home match against Hayes three days earlier ; Bucci did not play again until the final match of the season on 13th May. Lovell did not play in the Will Mather Cup match the previous evening as he was not fit; he did play on the following Saturday at Bromley, when the match report refers to Golders Green making two changes through injury, namely Long for Bucci (whose injury has already been mentioned), and Barnes in goal for Barlow, who was injured in this match at Barking. It is therefore assumed that Lovell was fit for this match.

In the Hendon Times edition of 19th May 1939, on page 19, there is a summary of Golders Green's season, which contains a list of all first team goalscorers. Comparison of that list with the scorers in all other first team matches shows that the Green's scorers in this match were THOMAS (2) and W BOSTON, the latter being the right back and the recently appointed penalty taker, as this makes the totals published in the season summary correct.
