Fred Boston's first [?] appearance this season had an inspiring effect on Golders Green at Claremont Road, on Saturday, when after a close game they beat a strong Wealdstone XI by four goals to three.
The match was played at a fast pace throughout, with the home team controlling the first half and Wealdstone superior in the second.
The Green led by three goals at the interval and after half time, their defence -- reinforced by the return of Hart in goal -- played magnificent football against determined opponents.
Soon after Cochrane had blazed away past the post from a few feet from the goal-line, PULLING netted for the Green from a difficult angle. He worked his way towards the right wing, turned, and drove the ball past Wells in Wealdstone's goal.
The Green continued to dominate the game, and repeatedly thrust their way through the visitors' defence.
Fred Boston grazed the bar with a fine shot and then forced a fruitless corner.
However, the Green's persistency was soon rewarded when STROUD scored two goals in five minutes.
The first came when a pass from Cochrane found him in a fine position anf he converted with ease.
He scored his second when Fred Boston centred in the goalmouth and STROUD ran forward to net the Green's third goal.
Wealdstone began to retaliate strongly and the game became more even. Hart and Ellison in particular were prominent among the home defenders.
Nevertheless, Wealdstone continued to press and NICHOLSON reduced the arrears when he beat Hart with a shot that curled into the top of the net.
Golders Green scored again after Hart had made a superb save from Charlton and had sent the ball up to Stroud who centred for GRIGGS to score.
After the re-start Golders Green's offensive lost much of its sting and they were kept bust defending their goal.
The Green did well to prevent Wealdstone scoring more than twice. These goals came from close range shots by NICHOLSON and CHARLTON.
The visitors renewed their attacks in a last minute effort to equalise but the Green held out and managed to secure a narrow victory.
