Golders Green sustained another setback, at Claremont Road, on Saturday, when they were beaten 4 goals to nil by the Metropolitan Police.

It is difficult to realise that a team which had had more of the play, territorially, should be beaten so heavily. The chief reason for the Green's defeat was their weakness on the wings. Stroud was very indecisive in the outside-right position, and Coleman, over on the left, although he put over some good centre and showed a fine turn of speed, had not the weight to stand up to the hefty Police backs.

The Police kicked off against the wind but the ball was cleared by Bucci. They attacked again and Hart was called upon to save from Parton.

Hart sent the ball up to Breagan who went through by himself and drove the ball narrowly past an upright.

The Green were later awarded a free kick. Boston took it and sent a fine shot skimming over the bar.

The Police were swinging the ball about a great deal but their shooting, although frequent, was inaccurate and the home defence were in no way har5d pressed.

At the other end Coleman sent over a perfect centre but the diminutive Cochrane could not get his head to it.

The visitors quickly swung the ball up to the opposite goal and after a tussle with the Green defenders, they notched their first goal. Gunner sent in a fast drive and Hart dived towards it, but he did not save cleanly and the ball rolled to the feet of JOHNSON who tapped it gently into the empty net.

From then, until thr Police scored again, Golders Green had more than their share of the play but they were unfortunate and narrowly missed scoring at least twice, through Breagan and Stroud. Stroud in particular bungled many excellent chances to score.

It was not long before the interval when the Police scored their second goal. Following a mass attack on the Green positions, PARTON converted a centre past Hart, from close range.

Soon after half-time the Police were three up. After Breagan had banged a terrific drive over the crossbar, the ball went down the field to GUNNER, who made no mistake with his well-placed shot. Hart threw himself at the ball but could not prevent it from entering the goal.

After the ball had been re-centred it seemed as if the Green must open their account, but the outside forwards missed many chances and the Police goal remained intact.

The visitors scored their last goal when JOHNSON took the ball down the right wing and sent it past Hart for the fourth time during the afternoon.
