Tufnell Park maintained their unbeaten record for the season by winning the first game in the Herts and Middlesex League Cup-Tie , with Golders Green on Saturday, by the only goal scored.
If anything, Golders Green had more scoring chances than their opponents, but their attack lacked that punch and cohesion necessary for the forcing home of their advantage.
Early on, a shot from Yates skimmed the cross-bar, and soon after Pulling got right through, but put the ball to the wrong side of the post. An attack by the Park placed the ball in the net, but it had been handled en-route. A corner followed, and Fisher, robbing Cox, got the ball away, Stroud squared, and from Yates' pass Bucci shot just wide. At the other end Taylor got through but his shot went over the top. Sealey later stopped Taylor at the expense of a corner, from which Edwards made a good effort to head home, while Beuchier soon afterwards went just wide with a good shot.
About 10 minutes before the interval came the all-important goal. Williams gained possession and passed well forward to EDWARDS, who put in a fine drive from about 20 yards out. The flight of the ball completely deceived Fielding, and it entered the net before he moved for it.
The second half opened and soon the Green began to press. Pulling headed wide from a Stroud centre and Yates had a good chance from the same player, but the ball skidded past him as he attempted to shoot. A corner followed, and there was a melee in front of the Park's goal before the ball was cleared and Fielding had to deal with a hot shot from Beuchier.
Towards the close, the Green attacked desperately, Stroud and Yates making attempts to score. Finally, with four minutes to go, Stroud took over at centre forward, but the change was too late, and before it could be got into operation the final whistle blew.
