Match Report

Golders Green lost their return match against Finchley 3-0 on Saturday, [not 3-1 as in the printed report.]

Immediately following the kick-off, Lovell was injured and left the field. Finchley attacked and HANWELL lobbed in a shot which, caught by the wind,, completely deceived Lucas in its flight and entered the net.

Both sides attacked in turn, Lucas making brilliant saves from Sainsbury and Gleave, and Milne was prominent in breaking up a number of Golders Green attacks.

After 20 minutes' play, Hanwell squared the ball in front of goal. It seemed as though Fisher thought it was going behind, but F. BOSTON dashed in and rammed home an unstoppable shot.

In the second half, Golders Green had long periods on the offensive, while their middle line continually checked Finchley's efforts to break away. A corner to the Green fizzled out when Pulling shot yards over.

Finchley's third goal came midway through the second half. It was a distinctly lucky point. F. Boston took a free kick which Lucas parried, but in doing so, lost his balance. The actual scoring was difficult to unravel. Gleave and Sainsbury dashed in together, and it appeared that GLEAVE's shot hit Lucas while the keeper was still on the wrong side of the goal line.

The Green continued to peg away, but their last chance of a goal went when Stroud put across, only for Evans to put just wide.
