After an excellent game at Claremont Road last Saturday, Golders Green gained the verdict over Barnet in their friendly fixture, by the odd goal of five. The Green deserved a bigger margin, as for the greater part of the second half they were bombarding the visitors' goal, and only some sturdy defence and excellent goalkeeping by Capon, aided by a little luck, kept the home team at bay.

Bucci's influence at left half made its itself felt in the play of the left wing, where Goodchild is settling down well, and showed that he is recovering his old form. The right wing functioned better in the first half than in the second, but again Chappell was badly served by his colleagues and hardly had a through pass. Sealey and Fisher were prominent in defence, and Rogers played a fine game. Sale did excellently in goal.

After 20 minutes, Haskow put the ball in for STROUD to open the score, but the Green led for only a few minutes before SAW equalised for Barnet. Five minutes before the interval, the visitors went ahead, SAW converting a centre from Cooper.

On resumption, Barnet nearly increased their lead, a shot from Andrews hitting the cross-bar. Gradually, however, Golders Green gained the upper hand. Time and again it seemed that the Barnet citadel must fall, but actually 20 minutes had gone by before STROUD headed the equaliser from Goodchild's pass. Three minutes later, a movement, starting with a clearance from Burns to Cochrane, resulted in STROUD scoring the third and winning goal.

A brief rally by Barnet, in which Sale saved from Elmer and Saw headed just wide, was repulsed, and from then until the final whistle, it was all Golders Green.
