Three points from two difficult away games can be considered a most satisfactory performance by Golders Green, and there is no doubt that they were well earned. With the Green's new players now settling down in the side, the team is gradually developing into a force to be reckoned with.
The Green's strength lay in its half-back line.
Slough had a workmanlike side, with a live forward line, and the game was well contested throughout. The Green, however, had sufficient scoring chances to have won with ease, but the right-wing forwards had an "off-day." As a result, the inside forwards tended to bunch, and there was little combined play in the front line.
There was a ding-dong first half, then, with almost the last kick before the interval, Yates, having run to retrieve the ball, put in a shot which Wakefield could only deflect to PULLING, who, close in, easily scored to give the Green the lead.
In the second half hard kicking enabled Slough to keep up strong pressure and in five minutes they were on terms. An unfortunate miskick by Pulling screwed the ball for a corner, and following the kick, GREEN put in a fine shot for the equaliser.
Except for occasional rallies by the Green, Slough continued to press for a period, and things looked black for the visitors when, after 15 minutes, a good movement between Brown and BARRETT enabled the latter to give his side the lead. But the Green played up with renewed vigour and Stroud put a centre across and from it EVANS shot home to equalise after 35 minutes.
Just before the close, following a corner to Slough, the Green raced down the field, and Wakefield just prevented a shot from entering the net.
