Golders Green put up a good performance at Summers Lane last Saturday in their final League fixture of the season. they were without Bossoms and Cox, and this involved a re-arrangement of the side. Fisher moved to left back, Gallacher to centre half and Bucci to left half. V. Henocq of the Reserves came in at inside left, and L. Pulling at inside right.
The Green's forward line was livelier than of late. Henocq and Goodchild made the best left wing the Green have had this season. Pulling was a constructive inside right, while Fair did splendidly without having the best of luck. The middle line was good and Gallacher kept the forceful Rogers well in check : Fisher was more than a match for Baker, while Fred Boston, Finchley's dangerous outside left, was given little rope.
Though playing up the slope and against the wind, Golders Green were soon aggressive, and the all-important goal was scored after only 8 minutes play. A free kick for hands was well taken by Topp, and the ball was deflected by Taylor to FAIR, who shot home.
After about 20 minutes, the Green were awarded a penalty for hands, but Bucci, who took the kick, put wide.
The home side did some excellent mid-field moves from time to time : from these Rogers and F. Boston both shot over when well placed, while Simmonds made a magnificent save from F. Boston who put in a "snorter" following a corner.
The game was fast and well contested throughout, with two good defences continually breaking up attacks. in view of the attitude of a section of the crowd, it is only fair to say that the game was very well handled by the referee in charge.
