Golders Green gained their first home win of the season on Saturday by defeating Wood Green Town.
There was rather more method and sting in the Wood Green attack, and Fisher found Wade a rare handful at times. Probably, however, had Bucci not had really bad luck with a fine shot that hit the crossbar, early on, the Green might have got well on top. As it was, the first half was goalless.
Soon after the interval, Golders Green switched. Bucci went to left half, Rogers to outside right and Goodchild to outside left. Almost at once Rogers got the ball to Worthington, and from his pass, MITCHELL scored with a magnificent shot which beat Joy all ends up.
The home side tried to hold on to their slender lead, but after half an hour's play Wood Green gained the equaliser with a penalty kick taken by A. SMITH. From here until the final whistle, there was a ding dong battle, and this was undoubtedly the best period of the match. Wood Green very nearly went ahead soon after getting on terms, McCann only saving Wade's shot with difficulty. Then Golders Green resumed the offensive, and soon afterwards they, too, were awarded a penalty, but Gallacher, taking the kick, shot wide.
About three minutes before time MITCHELL who, though somewhat slow, was the cleverest forward on view, scored the home side's winning goal with another excellent shot.
