Golders Green gave a vastly improved performance on Saturday against Grays Athletic on their ground. In the second half, they dominated the play, and had sufficient gilt-edged chances to have secured a clear cut victory, but finishing was poor. Some old faults remained -- dribbling by backs and the "W" complex of inside forwards -- but were less pronounced, in fact the back's work was one of the features in the Green's improvement. The half back line was sound, Rogers in particular putting up a fine performance, and praise is due to McCann in goal for some very good saves.
Sealey was unfit, while Bucci could not make the journey in time.
After an initial attack by the visitors, Grays began to exert heavy pressure ; but the Green's defence held well. Then a miskick on slippery ground enabled Root to get away, and from his pass DOWSETT put Grays ahead.
Towards the close of the half, Grays put on a spurt to increase their lead, McCann making excellent clearances from W. Phillips (Grays' most dangerous forward), and from J. Moore.
On resuming, the Green's kicking improved and the team was more lively. After just under 20 minutes they equalised, WORTHINGTON shooting home from a pass by Thomas. The centre forward had a great chance of giving the Green the lead soon after, but put wide. Goodchild hit the crossbar and then from a cross pass Elmer was put clean away, and found himself with no one but Bennett to beat. He steadied himself and shot -- outside.
