INTRODUCTION
Golders Green suffered two defeats at the hands of Enfield over the Easter holiday. The Green gave poor displays in both matches, but in extenuation it must be admitted that they were forced to field much depleted sides. Fisher and Bossoms were still injured, and Marrable and Avis were hurt on Good Friday. To add to their troubles, Lynch, Topp, Stroud and King were with the Middlesex side in Cornwall.
Many clubs - Golders Green included - must be commencing to wonder how long this spate of representative games is to be allowed to rob them of their best players Saturday after Saturday. These games should be played mid-week or not at all. To stage them on Saturdays is unfair both to clubs and their supporters.
GOOD FRIDAY MATCH
This is a match that Golders Green should not have lost, too many chances being wasted. The Green's forwards were unable to sustain their attacks and the hard kicking and long clearances of the Enfield defence continually had the home rearguard on the run. Enfield were faster on the ball and there was more snap in their play.
The Green took the lead after 13 minutes, when AVIS, receiving from A. Williams, went through on his own to score. Soon after, Avis put Griffiths through, and he cleverly lobbed the ball over Teevan's head, but it went just outside the post.
Godding fisted out a centre from Barley, but CHICK gained possession to equalise for Enfield. Marrable received a cut over the eye and left the field for attention ; while he was off Chick eluded Maloney and passed in for NOVELS To put Enfield ahead.
Marrable came back after half an hour's play, but just before the interval CHICK got through to net Enfield's third.
The Green switched Dovey and Maloney after half-time, and 10 minutes after resuming, a nice movement between Cochrane and Owen put GRIFFITHS through to score the Green's second. Soon after, Avis weas seen to be limping badly, and finished the game at outside right, with Owen outside left and Cochrane inside left. In this position Cochrane put up an excellent game ; Griffiths and Owen both had chances to equalise, but the Green's third goal never came.
