Golders Green went to Gander Green Lane last Saturday for their replay of the London Senior Cup 1st Round Tie against Sutton [United], and emerged victors by two goals to one, after playing [with] ten men for the whole of the second half. The winning goal, a picture effort by Stroud and Griffiths, was scored two minutes from time.

It was a hard fought encounter with many thrills, and the home forward line always looked dangerous on the move ; but Bryant, their outside right, spoiled much good work by his persistent refusal to centre, and this slowed up their line. For the Green Roberts in goal had a splendid game and made many brilliant saves ; the two backs were sound and strong, while the half-back line functioned splendidly. In the attack, Stroud and Griffiths were outstanding. The Green were more "on their toes" than for some time, they were faster on the ball than Sutton and were also the better side "in the air."

After ten minutes' play, Stroud put over a good centre which GRIFFITHS headed past Carr to give the visitors the lead. Sutton hit back, and Roberts parried from Vaughan, before the Green got away again and Griffiths netted, but the whistle had gone for an infringement. The home side continued to strive hard, gaining three corners, and Roberts did well to gather a header from Vaughan. Just before half-time, Lovell sustained a bad leg injury and left the field.

The home side resumed after the interval with determined efforts, and Roberts made two further fine clearances from Vaughan. Lovell pluckily came back on to the field, but after five minutes had to give up.

After 27 minutes, a Sutton attack developed as a result of dallying by the Green ; VAUGHAN put in a long shot which a defender deflected out of Roberts' reach into the net for the equaliser.

For a time the Green's defence was at full stretch ; Roberts was again prominent, making three fine clearances. Griffiths had a difficult chance from a bad Sutton goal kick, but the ball went over the bar. Sutton broke through and Roberts parried another shot from Vaughan for King to kick clear.

Then a couple of minutes from the end, when extra time seemed inevitable, the Green forced a corner. Stroud put over a perfect centre, which GRIFFITHS headed clean and true into the net - as fine a winning goal as one could wish to see.

This victory against odds must be reckoned as one of the Green's best fighting performances for a long time.
