Tufnell Park, fresh from their Cup triumph over Walthamstow Avenue, gave a great display at Claremont Road last Saturday and well deserved their 3-0 victory over Golders Green in the Herts and Middlesex League. The two points at stake meant a rise to 5th place in the table for the successful team.
Tufnell Park, by long clean kicking, domination by their wing halves and clever forward play, gained the ascendency, and had the Green's defence working hard.
By contrast, the Green's attack was weak. The wing halves were frequently out of position, so the vanguard did not receive adequate support : the inside forwards therefore had to drop back and forage, reducing the effective attack to three forwards.
It must be admitted that the ball did not run kindly for the Green, but this cannot account for their failure. Except for Sale, who played a great game in goal, Fisher, who heald Cox effectively, and Sealey, who without adequate support dominated the centre, no player touched normal form.
All the goals [,from BeuschIer, Smith, and Taylor,] came in the first half.
In the second half, the Green had much more of the play, but their attacks were not pressed home. For the last half an hour, they were without Goodchild, who left the field with slight concussion following a collision with Thompson.
Several switches were tried, but they brought no improvement, and the Green's attack could not make any impression on the Park's defence. Chappell, the most likely scorer, did not receive a single useable pass.
