Golders Green met Leyton in the return Herts and Middlesex League game, at Claremont Road, on Saturday, and a goal scored by Yates four minutes from the start enabled them to annex two more points, thus completing the "double" at Leyton's expense -- the first side to bring off the feat this season.
The game, while not reaching the standard of the previous week, was fast and interesting, with the defences on top throughout.
The Green scored when Haskow put the ball out to Riches, and from his centre YATES's upward header deceived Caines as it dropped and entered the net. Stroud had a chance to increase the lead, but shot wide.
Sealey, during a Leyton attack, headed backwards but Lucas was ready. A bad kick by the centre-half put Leyton away, but Haines was off-side. Back again, Haskow passed to Yates, who put a great shot just over the bar.
After the interval, the Green gained two corners, following which Haskow was fouled in the penalty area. Munday took the spot kick and shot straight at Caines, who cleared well for Leyton to attack. Lucas saved, and a good Green movement by Owen, Munday and Yates ended when Riches shot over the bar.
Leyton had other escapes when with Caines out, the ball was shot towards the goal, and when Watson kicked clear as the ball was trickling into goal out of Caines' reach.
Haines made a good effort for Leyton following a throw-in, and for a time the visitors pressed hard. The pressure was relieved by Fisher, and the final whistle went with the ball in midfield.
