Golders Green visited Leyton last Saturday for a Herts and Middlesex League game and after having by far the better of the play throughout the match, they were defeated by a goal scored on the stroke of time -- in fact it was past time, but the referee apparently allowed a minute or so for stoppages.
Golders Green were without Alexander who failed to put in an appearance, and J. Birbeck deputised. Bucci and Rodwell were the backs, and M. Leniston took Hart's place in goal.
The ball would not travel in the mud, and frequently played tricks, so that accuracy of play was almost impossible. The Green tended to keep the ball close, but were almost continually attacking. They were faced by a strong pair of backs and an excellent goalkeeper in Gibbs, the Kent County player.
The Green played well enough to win, and at worst a draw would have been a fair result. Outstanding in their side were W. Fisher who played a magnificent game and whose coolness, intelligence, anticipation and speed mark him as a player of top class, and A. Munday, a strong, whole-hearted ninety-minute player, always in the thick of the fray. The left wing was weak, with two right-footed forwards. Pulling played a grand game, and Fontans, Breagan and Stroud combined well.
