Match Report

Golders Green fell from grace at Claremont Road last Saturday when Slough, their visitors, gained their second win of the season, defeating the Green by four goals to two.

The home side were well below strength, and the enforced changes seemed to unsettle the side. Bucci was absent, still suffering from his injury at Walthamstow, Fisher moved to left back and L. Page, a junior, whose father had played for the club back in 1920, came in at right back. Griggs took centre forward position, with E. Munday at outside left, partnering Pulling.

The Green's defence was weak, and Hart was often left unprotected. The attack seems to have lost all cohesion, and the sparkling forward play which had characterised the previous games, had vanished. The ball was kept too close; players did not take up possession to receive passes, and often two or three kicks were taken at the ball, when one would have done. Compared with Slough, whose inside-right, Ingram, dominated the game, the home side was slow, while there was no sting in the attack.

On Saturday Golders Green will be away to Slough. The team has not yet been selected, but it is hoped that Bucci will be fit enough to resume, while it is expected that a trial will be given to a new young centre-forward.

Golders GFreen open their 1941-2 Cup career on December 6, when they entertain Edgware Town in the 2nd round of the Middlesex Senior Cup.
