Hitchin Town are undoubtedly a formidable combination on their own ground, and Golders Green have every reason to be satisfied with their performance last Saturday, when they lost narrowly by 5 goals to 3. As one of Hitchin's goals -- the 4th -- was definitely off-side, and as the visitors were without Cochrane and Pulling, the performance is even better than it appears.
Fortunately, Weeks was able to turn out for the Green, and the original selection was for Breagan to go to the centre forward position and Lovell to right half. When the teams turned out, however, the latter, at his request, occupied the centre forward berth, and an excellent show he put up. He scored two goals and made the third. But praise for Lovell becomes an integral part of Golders Green reports. He is such a natural footballer that he would do well in any position. The inside-left berth was entrusted to E. Munday, brother of the left half, and considering the difficulty of the match, he did fairly well for a first appearance.
Weeks had his work cut out in holding Lingwood, the Town's virile centre forward, who was always dangerous. Hitchin played vastly different football from the previous week : interspersed with the long kicking was some brilliant constructive play: every man was alert and went to meet the ball, while the Green, especially in the earlier stages, waited for it.
