On paper, Golders Green's performance in drawing with Hitchin Town last Saturday at Claremont Road, looks good. In actual fact, the Green's performance was better than it looks. Their football was far superior to that shown by the champions, and, but for rank weakness in front of goal, would have won easily. Their sparkling play and their speed and enthusiasm paved the way for many good openings, which were wasted. In contrast, Hitchin played the long-kicking game, and very rarely looked dangerous.
Golders Green's defence was good. Wreford confirmed the good impression he created on his previous appearance, while Bucci's practised mind was an ideal complement to Fisher. The half back line was very good, Lovell again being outstanding, while Breagan and Munday played strongly.
In the forward line, Cochrane was outstanding, while Stroud played excellently. He should learn, however, to keep on the alert, and watch the ball -- on several occasions passes were wasted because he was not ready for them. He might also with advantage vary his tactics by putting over centres more frequently and not always trying a shot.
Shorland had too little to do, but what he did was well done, while Fontana, who has been off form recently, showed, especially in the second half, a welcome revival. Pulling had one of those days, which every player gets, when nothing went right for him.
