Outclassed in every position, an Army and R.A.F. XI presented Golders Green with an easy victory at Claremont Road, on Saturday.
At the outset of the game a lack of opportunism lost the Green many goals. First Griggs and then Cochrane missed easy goals.
At such an early period of the game it was plain that Golders Green was the better side and it was not surprising that they should score about 15 minutes after the start.
Busby was fouled in the penalty area as he was running towards goal and Cochrane took the spot kick. His shot was stopped by Stewart, but the goalkeeper could not hold it and COCHRANE ran forward and netted.
After the home side had continued to bombard the visitors' goal, the ball went to Mitchell on the right wing. The winger ran forward and centred to LAMBERT who scored for the visitors from what seemed a definite offside position.
After this the match became very dull. The Green were having things all their own way, but they failed badly in front of goal. Cochrane livened up the game with a fine shot which Stewart had difficulty in saving.
Just before half time GRIGGS scored his first when he converted, with his head, a pass from Pulling.
After half time GRIGGS netted two more quick goals. The first came following a corner and the second from a shot which went through the goalkeeper's legs.
After a further spell of sustained pressure by Golders Green, GRIGGS scored his fourth goal in succession. Stewart had saved a shot from Busby, but he failed to hold the ball and Griggs ran through to score with ease.
The Army and Air Force were by now completely outplayed and Golders Green did almost as they liked.
Before the end furthH. Kay scored the ninth when he sent in a low er goals came from STROUD, PULLING and GRIGGS.
H. KAY scored the ninth when he sent in a low shot which Stewart made no attempt to save and the ball went into the corner of the net.
