Match Report

At Claremont Road last Saturday, Golders Green qualified for the 3rd round of the Middlesex Senior Cup by defeating Edgware Town by 7 goals to 2. The Green were good value for their win, but perhaps the score somewhat exaggerates their superiority as the last four goals were scored when Edgware had only 10 men on the field. The winners, however, were well on the way to victory before Ade was injured.

Joe Bloxham, home on leave, turned out at right half, Breagan moving to inside left. Bucci was at left half, and A. Munday moved to outside left.

Although playing against the wind, Golders Green took the lead in the 7th minute. Bucci shot following good work by Stroud and Munday; Wakrell parried, but the ball went to PULLING who scored easily. Edgware retaliated, Langston taking a good corner. Coker put in a shot which Hart punched over well for a second corner. Thjis went behind. Edgware continued to attack for long periods, and only good keeping by Hart and strong defence by Lovell and Fisher prevented them from scoring. On one occasion Lovell headed out a certain goal with Hart out of his charge. Then Stroud got clear of Shorland, put in to Bloxham, and from hi pass BUCCI shot a glorious goal from about 20 yards out, to put the Green 2 up.

Suddenly, the game underwent a change. Edgware went down the field, and the ball went to Griffin, who beat Hart with a great shot. Immediately afterwards, Edgware broke away again, and a miskick by Rodwell let LANGSTON through. His shot completely deceived Hart, and Edgware were on terms.

There was no further score before half-time, but soon after the resumption, following a throw-in, Bloxham put across to BUCCI,, who gave the Green the lead with another fine shot. The home side were now on top. Wakrell just saved a shot from Bloxham, and it was at this stage that Edgware were reduced to 10 men. Then STROUD got away on the right, cut in and shot hard from an acute angle. Wakrell touched the ball, but could not prevent it going into the net. The fifth goal followed soon afterwards, when BREAGAN scored from Bloxham's pass, while MUNDAY scored the 6th and 7th, in each case following cross passes by Stroud.
