Match Report

In a football match at Claremont Road ground on Saturday in aid of Hendon Warship Week, Golders Green proved too strong for the Polish Air Force XI, the local club winning by 7-2.

With the flag of Poland fluttering bravely over one end of the stand and the Union Jack over the other, to the strains of martial music from the band of the Middlesex Regiment, the two teams came on to the field side by side, and, lining up, were introduced to the Mayor of Hendon who had been received on arrival by the Club's President, Mr. A. Murray.

When the game started, it was soon evident that the Green were the superior combination. The Polish forwards were very speedy, but for the most part the home defence dealt safely with their attacks. On the other hand, the visitor's defence was not strong under pressure, and Bednarek in goal was constantly in action. He played a great game and was in no way to blame for the adverse score of 7-2.

The total gate, without any deductions, is being handed over to the Hendon Warship Week Fund, the Club having decided to bear all the expenses of staging the match.
