Match Report

Golders Green were too strong for Eversheds in the 3rd Round Middlesex Senior Cup Tie at Claremont Road, on December 18. The Green played 10 men for 25 minutes ; they established a commanding lead, and by the time Bucci turned out were 3 up. The interval score was 6-0, and had not Golders Green relapsed into close passing and holding the ball the score would have been higher than it was.

Barker gained another "hat trick" -- his second in his three games for the Club -- and now heads the season's score list with 7 to his credit. If he can maintain his present form, he is likely to prove the Green's best centre forward since the days of Fred Evans. Stroud was an excellent right winger, while R. Gallacher dominated the centre of the field.

BARKER, unfairly brought down in the penalty area, took the spot-kick himself and scored. Ten minutes later, Stroud put in a good centre from which Barker's shot struck the upright, the ball rebounding for GOODCHILD to shoot the second goal.

Later Mitchell passed well to Stroud, and BARKER, gathering the centre, beat two men and scored. Then Barker put STROUD through to score the fourth with a shot which Slade got to, but could not hold. Five minutes afterwards, the ball came across from Stroud ; Slade was unable to reach it and it went to GOODCHILD who had positioned himself well to put the fifth into an empty net. Just before the half-time whistle blew, STROUD ran through to score the 6th.

After the interval Eversheds got their consolation point, PROCTER converting a centre from Willcox.

The Green continued attacking and the visitors' goal had several miraculous escapes. But the home side were holding the ball too close, and these tactics do not lead to goals. Five minutes from the end, however, BARKER went through well to score the Green's seventh.

As a result of this win, Golders Green visit Southall in the fourth round of the Middlesex Senior Cup, on January 15.
