Match Report

Golders Green received the powerful Bromley side at Claremont Road last Saturday with a depleted half-back line. Floyd and Williams were not available, and A. White, a promising young reserve, deputised at centre-half, and King at left-half. Both did well, but the middle line did not function as it should. Gaps were frequent, and the attack was neither sufficiently well served nor sufficiently powerful.

The Green started well, and after eight minutes Stroud forced a corner which led to GLASER hooking the ball over Barron's head to score the Green's first. Then Glaser put to COCHRANE, who beat Barron with a long swerving shot to put the Green two up. But soon after, the game changed completely, and Bromley scored three goals within a few minutes, [Crowther (2) and Ruddy netting].

Half-time found Bromley leading 3-2, and any hopes that the Green may have had of saving the game were dispelled when REECE converted a centre by Coulson to make the score 4-2, and soon after the same player notched the fifth.

Just before the end Griffiths weaved his way through and passed to COCHRANE, who scored the Green's third with a magnificent shot - the best of the match.

Golders Green was fighting against a combination that, in seven league matches, has conceded only nine goals, five of them scored by the Green. But it is clear that several problems still await the Green's selectors.
