Match Report

The first match of the new year for Hendon resulted in a defeat, and a league double over the Greens. Champion Hill was wet and bumpy in places and Dulwich always looked the better side overall, despite an early injury to Peter Garland.

Hendon started slowly, and rarely bothered Cleevely during the first half, although he was forced into punching away an in-swinging corner - only managing to do so weakly - whilst one or two long range shots also appeared to worry the 'keeper, particularly one from Guentchev.

Dulwich caused far more problems for McCann, and should have scored after about 30 minutes, but the shot was driven powerfully at the 'keeper. The goal came however, in the 36th minute, and was not a surprise, as Hendon's midfield play was bad, and the ball was often simply given away.

During the second half, things started to change, and Hendon started to look like they wanted to win the match. Guentchev and Whitmarsh linked up several times, but the final touch was never quite there, both players being given chances by the other. Daly also had two chances, both being far-post headers from corners, the first Cleevely just getting to it, before it stopped on the line and was cleared away. Marvuto Sakala also had a chance to score, but he was just beaten to the ball by Cleevely, the Dulwich man-of-the-match.

Dulwich had few chances in the second half, and most went wide of the goal, but despite this, the South London side still managed to look a little superior to the Dons.
