Match Report

Hendon lost their fourth pre-season friendly out of six played, but, after some poor first-half defending which gave Wingate & Finchley a 3-0 lead after 25 minutes, in the second half, stengthened by six substitutions, the Greens gave the visitors' defence some difficult moments, and might possibly have equalised with a modicum of luck.

Hendon's starting line-up contained just two unknown trialists, both apparently playing their first game for the club. The rest of the line-up contained six registered players, of whom four have yet to be formally announced via the website or social media, and three known trialists - players of whom we know the name but who have not yet signed with the club for the new season.

Defensive errors gave Wingate a two goal start within the first quarter of an hour. Misplaced passing across the back gave CAMILO RESTREPO, the visitors' #9, a clear run on goal after four minutes, and he gave Hendon's 'keeper no chance. Eleven minutes later a pass back to the 'keeper was too short. RESTREPO fastened on to the ball and was deemed by the referee to have been fouled in the area. He took the spot kick and netted confidently.

Wingate scored again just before the twenty-five minute mark, when the #7 scored with a good cross-shot that ended just inside the far post.

Hendon unexpectedly pulled a goal back just after the half-hour mark when their #5, an unknown trialist who had had a torrid half to date, scored with a flicked header from a right-wing corner, leaving Hendon 1-3 down at the interval.

Hendon started with the same line-up for the second half, but had just made their first two changes when they scored, again from a corner. The Wingate 'keeper, a half-time change, rather flapped at the ball under pressure and only succeeded in knocking it against DAVE DIEDHIOU, from whom it bounced into the net.

Five minutes later Hendon made their remaining four changes, and these resulted in an improved performance from the Greens both in defence and attack, but not to the level of being able to find an equaliser.
