Match Report

Hendon and Harrow Borough took advantage of their Saturday morning postponements to meet each other at the Silver Jubilee Park on the immaculate all-weather 3G pitch. Andy it was Hendon who took full advantage of the ground upon which they train, to hammer their Ryman League Premier Division rivals 6-0.

Going down the hill in the first half, Hendon quickly had Borough on the back foot and in the eighth minute won a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area. Andre Da Costa's effort was almost perfect, but it dipped just too late, clipping the underside of the crossbar.

Indicative of their current position, there was not a single Harrow Borough player who reacted to the ball bouncing back into play. Indicative of their current position, Hendon's Casey Maclaren headed home, unchallenged, from five yards to give them the lead.

Harrow rarely caused the Hendon defence many difficulties, and Dave Diedhiou, Tony Taggart, Chris Seeby and Charlie Goode were in control of the Borough frontmen and Ben McNamara had little to do all afternoon. It was a different story at the other end as Sam Murphy, Da Costa and Leon Smith made things awkward for all but John Sonuga.

It was a bit of a surprise that it took until the final ten minutes of the half for Hendon to extend their advantage and it came at the end of a magnificent flowing move. It started with Taggart on the left side and he played the ball across the middle of the back four, where it was passed on to James Fisher.

Diedhiou made an incisive run down the right flank and was found by Fisher's well-weighted pass. He then laid the ball off to Da Costa, who crossed deep to the far post, where the late-arriving Lee O'Leary was on hand to head home from an acute angle. It must be said, again, that the Harrow marking was non-existant.

For the second half, Hendon made a few changes, including reorganising the entire defence, which included the introduction of Ollie Sprague and Elliott Brathwaite, while Kezie Ibe and Aaron Morgan formed a dangerous attacking partnership.

Ibe failed to score, but he certainly played a part in assisting Morgan to a hat-trick. That said, Morgan's finish for the first goal was the result of a magnificent strike which gave Nick Jupp no chance of making a save.

Morgan's second goal was the result of good interplay around the penalty area, but the striker’s deft touch to finally create the opening was excellent and left a couple of Borough defenders sprawled on the ground.

The only negative of the afternoon came when Seeby chased a diagonal ball and got a cross into the near post. Fisher collided with Jupp and took an accidental knee in the leg from the goalkeeper. Seeby, however, overstretched and went down in agony with a knee injury.

It meant a double change, with Max McCann taking over from Fisher and Diedhiou returning in place of the stricken Seeby. After the match, physio Mark Findley was guardedly optimistic that the injury might not have been as a severe as first thought, but he did caution that a further diagnosis 48 hours later would reveal the full extent of the damage.

Hendon's fifth goal, and Maclaren's second, spoke volumes about his commitment, but equally much about the mental state of the visitors' defence. Once more the ball came off the crossbar and, although there were Harrow defenders in the vicinity of the bouncing ball, none reacted as quickly as Maclaren, who hooked the ball into the net over his shoulder.

With a little more than a dozen minutes remaining, Hendon completed the rout when Morgan burst through the middle, beat Jupp and slipped the ball into the net.
