Match Report

Hampstead Town won their Amateur Cup tie with Hounslow on Saturday by the unusual score of six goals to four. Although outplaying their opponents for three parts of the game over-confidence in the ultimate result nearly lost Hampstead the match.

In the first half especially the Hampstead forwards made many clever movements, but did not score as freely as they should have done given the circumstances. The first goal credited to Hampstead followed a shot by K. Seabrooke, the ball glancing off one of the visiting backs into the net. Their second goal was also due to a brilliant effort by Seabrooke, who, although playing with a bandaged knee as a result of injury a fortnight previous, did remarkably well. The home side continued to have much more of the play, but found the Hounslow goalkeeper in brilliant form. Now and again excellent work was put in by the visiting forwards, and shortly before the interval they pierced Hampstead's defence.

With the interval score of 2-1 in their favour Hampstead continued to take matters too easily, and twice when Hounslow drew level the issue appeared to be in doubt. Really good goals, however, by F.G. Young and W. Little in the last ten minutes made victory sure.

Under severe pressure the Hounslow defence actually scored three goals for the Town, although two of these were certain to find the net in any case.

The goals for Hounslow were obtained by Woodcock (2), Joel and Pepper, the latter scoring from a penalty for hands.
