Match Report

With the prospects of being "runners-up" in the Athenian League, Hampstead Town improved their position last night [Thursday] by defeating Kingstonians by one goal to nil. In view of their Continental matches - reported elsewhere - and the fact that several of the usual team were unable to get "time off" the Hampstead team did remarkably well.

The attendance was exceedingly good for an evening match. Brazier won the toss for Hampstead and elected that his side should have the benefit of the strong wind at the start. For the first twenty minutes Hampstead played with only ten men, Young being late. With this drawback Hampstead did not shape like a winning team, and many present proclaimed a set back for them. Well in the first half Rowe, near the penalty line, sent in a splendid shot which struck the post and went into goal. With the wind in Kingston's favour tall kicking was the order, and something like a dozen corners fell to the visitors without success. The Kingstonians were much quicker on the ball and seemed to hem the Hampstead forwards in, but could not score. The latter part of the game was played in semi-darkness, and it was difficult for the players to follow the ball. The homesters were extremely lucky in keeping a clean sheet.
