Match Report

Enfield invariably go under at Cricklewood-lane, and on Saturday they met with yet another defeat, Hampstead Town winning the Athenian League game by two goals to none. The first goal came early in the opening stages, Irwin converting a good centre by Smith; while the second goal was obtained towards the end in the same manner, Harris taking advantage of Smith's effort. The tally of goals, however, should have been much greater. Hampstead lost a good many chances and certainly Enfield deserved to score on many occasions. In the first few minutes Moss and Dyson did not give the impression that they were worthy of County honours, but later they developed a fine understanding, their tackling and good judgment in kicking being a feature. Goodwin kept a remarkably good goal for Hampstead. The play of the backs was not up to standard, but happily the Enfield forwards were as remiss in shooting as the home side. Ball control seemed to be difficult, and while the players could not be accused of lethargy, there were indications that most of them were glad that the end of the season had arrived. Hampstead were without Young and Seabrooke, the centre-forward position being taken by Irwin, but it cannot be said that he was conspicuously successful. Places were found for A. Thorlby and O. Reinke, and the former, at right-half, showed promising form.

From "Sports Gleanings", 8 May 1925 :

It is interesting to note that R.F. Brazier, Hampstead's left back, has played in every match this season, and S. Smith has only missed one game, through no fault of his own. [This comment ignores the Middlesex Senior Cup final, when Hampstead fielded a reserve team, the firsts being on tour in Belgium.] Other ex-reserves in Harris, Barnes, Irwin, Reinke and Iles have all made considerable progress, and with the continued assistance of the older players, Wardlaw, Goodwin, Wise, Seabrooke and Young, the club look forward with confidence to the opening of another season next August.
