Match Report

Hampstead Town concluded their assignments in the Athenian League with a handsome victory over Windsor and Eton, who had lost on their own ground by 2-0, being again beaten by 7-1. There was a big crowd to witness the match, the last to be played by Hampstead at Cricklewood-lane, and the decisive victory afforded much satisfaction. At the close the Child's Hill Band played Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem.

Hampstead opened the scoring in the first minute through Ashby. Knott soon equalised for the visitors, but before the interval Hampstead had increased their total to six, further goals being obtained by Ashby (2), Rowe, Cousins and Wise.

In the second half Windsor and Eton reduced the lead through Norris, who headed through from Coward's pass, but Hampstead replied with another goal from a penalty kick, taken by Pease, who went centre-forward in the second half owing to a slight injury. Ashby had to leave the field owing to a strain.

While Hampstead deserved their victory, as they played brilliantly, the score somewhat exaggerates their superiority. Although they scored rapidly in the first half, the play was not one-sided, but Goodwin gave another brilliant exposition of goalkeeping against his old side. J.R. Weaver, who has played for Wealdstone, was at outside-left for Hampstead Town, and it was largely through his work that the first goal was obtained.

It is hoped that the forwards will be in equally good form tomorrow (Saturday) in the Cup-tie at Brentford against Botwell Mission.
