Match Report

Golders Green played their last match of the season, at Claremont Road, on Saturday, when they drew, two each, with Tufnell Park in a match for the Manor House Hospital (Will Mather) Cup.

Extra time was not played, the teams agreeing to keep the cup six months each.

It was a game which the Green should have won decisively. They had most of the play, but their forwards, especially Ellison, failed badly in front of goal.

Golders Green took the lead early in the game when ELLISON snapped up a pass and scored.

There was no more scoring in the first half, although Golders Green were continually in front of their opponents' goal.

The Green's forwards were supplied with plenty of passes by their defence, which never showed signs of faltering. Weeks, in particular, showed exceptional brilliance.

After the interval Ellison sent the ball soaring over the bar after Stroud had beaten three men and centred.

It was very surprising when Tufnell Park equalised against the run of the play. Their defenders robbed the Green forwards of the ball and sent it up the field. Boston fastened on to it and passed it back to Hart in the Green goal. Hart, however, fumbled with the ball and missed it, allowing FLETCHER to run in and score.

After repeated pressure Golders Green again took the lead when STROUD converted a corner from Cochrane.

A few minutes before the end Tufnell Park snatched another goal, FLETCHER tapped the ball into the net after it had beaten Hart and rebounded off the post.
