A weak right flank was the cause of Golders Green failing to win against the mediocre Enfield eleven, at Claremont Road, on Saturday.
the game resulted in a draw with four goals each. The Green played three or four new players. W. Boston relinquished his position at right-back in favour of a newcomer, and Boston was seen in the unfamiliar role of centre-forward.
The game began with each side scoring a quick goal. A few minutes after the kick-off, COLEMAN broke away and netted with a fine shot from the left wing. Almost immediately afterwards CONSTABLE went through for Enfield and equalised with a fast drive.
The Green scored their second when COCHRANE beat the Enfield goalkeeper in a race for the ball and lobbed it into the goal.
It was not long before the visitors were again on equal terms. CONSTABLE, who did almost what he liked in the outside-left position, gathered a pass and banged it past the Green goalkeeper.
Enfield notched another before half-time when CONSTABLE netted an easy goal and so completed his treble.
Just before the interval the home side equalised. Breagan was awarded a free-kick which he sent soaring into the goalmouth. It was deflected into the net by the Enfield centre-half.
After the re-start, Golders Green, although they had most of the play, found that goals continually eluded them.
The trouble was with their passing, which was consistent only in fact that the ball went to an opposing player nearly every time.
The Green defence, too, was unreliable and with a little more luck Enfield would have added to their lead.
However, it was the home side which scored first. The Enfield goalkeeper had saved from a Green forward but before he could clear PULLING had kicked the ball out of his hands and into the goal.
Enfield brought the scores level again when STRONG converted a pass.
With a few minutes to go both teams strained for the decisive goal, but neither side could score and the match ended in a draw which on the play was a fitting result.
