Golders Green, without Sealey, Bucci and Alexander, all unfit, and Stroud, assisting the Arsenal, were no match for Leyton in their friendly game at Claremont Road on Saturday.

For the home side, Fisher at right back played a magnificent game in an endeavour to bolster up the defence, while in attack Mitchell was brilliant and Goodchild gave a fine display at outside right.

The Green's defence often had great difficulty in dealing with the clever and forceful Leyton attack. Sale, fortunately a safe goalkeeper, being frequently in action.

Mitchell, who was the mainspring of the Green's attack, opened up the game splendidly, with long, swinging, accurate passes, but they were not turned to account through weakness in front of goal, and Gibbs was not often seriously tested.

Early on, Golders Green set up a strong attack and Goodchild got over a centre., Gibbs saving from Chappell. Leyton broke away after five minutes' play and HIGGINS, standing well up the field, had a clear run to goal, scoring with an excellent shot.

Leyton continued to press for a while : they gained two corners, and then Nash hit the bar, Sale saving Stevenson's shot from the rebound. The Green gradually recovered, having much more of the play in the later stages of the first half, but they were unable to break through the visitors' defence, in which Watson was outstanding.

Soon after the interval Leyton went further ahead when STEVENSON netted following a throw-in. The Green had good chances of reducing the arrears, first when Gibbs missed Goodchild's corner kick, with no-one up to tap the ball home, and later when Pulling shot over when well placed. Just before the close Smith went down the field well, and scored Leyton's third goal from close in.
