Match Report

having held Barnet to a draw at Barnet, Golders Green disappointed their supporters in the replay of this London Senior Cup-tie at Claremont Road on Saturday, when they said "Good Bye" to the London Cup for this season. They were decisively beaten by four goals to one, and there can be no doubt that the better side won.

Golders Green were without Bossoms (unfit) and Mitchell (out of town), while Stroud was unable to get Army permission to play. Thus the home side was not as strong as they had been at Barnet.

The visitors started without their goalkeeper, who arrived late, Pullen deputising between the posts for the first 12 minutes. But even with this advantage, Golders Green made very little headway. They kept their goal intact under heavy pressure at times, for 35 minutes, but then following a corner, the ball went out to PULLEN who put in a grand shot to open the visitors' account.

Half time came without further score, but 12 minutes after resuming, SAW headed Barnet's second goal from Jordan's centre. Powell saved a free kick well taken by Gallacher, and at this stage, the home side switched Worthington and Brown. Shortly afterwards Worthington sent the ball to Goodchild, who centred across to INGRAM to reduce the arrears.

Golders Green now appeared to play with more go, and at this stage seemed to have a chance of pulling the game out of the fire. In fact, had they played like this throughout the match, they would probably have won. They gained several corners, and Powell saved a hot shot from Bucci.

Then the tide turned again ; Barnet went down the field : Bucci, hard-pressed, tried to pass the ball for Fisher to clear, but SAW was too quick for the Green's right back : he nipped in and scored Barnet's third. The issue was now decided, and it came as no surprise when, just before time, Reilly scored Barnet's fourth.

At the time of writing, Golders Green's fixture for Saturday is uncertain. A revised fixture list scheduled them to visit Walthamstow Avenue, but, as the original fixture list had given the Avenue an away fixture for January 8, Walthamstow have loaned their ground for a Cup game, and it is not available.
