Match Report

Golders Green paid their first visit to Erith and Belvedere last Saturday, and ran out winners by 4-2.

The Green were the better side and the main danger came from Erith's sharpshooting. The home side played a hard game and Aldous, their centre-half, did three men's work, ultimately scoring two goals - one for each side!

Topp was again the best player, while Cochrane had a very good match. Generally, however, the Green's forward line needed a little more cohesion and punch to make it really dangerous, though had the ground been less bumpy, the visitors' skill might have shown up to more advantage.

Golders Green took the lead after 7 minutes, when splendid interplay between Avis and COCHRANE enabled the outside left to score with a cross-shot.

Erith launched some hot attacks : Jarvis lobbed one on top of the net from a centre by Miller and then Williams blocked a shot by Gurr after Roberts had punched out and fallen ; two corners followed and Miller then hit the crossbar with a fine drive.

Just before half-time Griffiths gave Cochrane a pass, which the winger returned beautifully placed for GRIFFITHS to put the Green two up.

After 15 minutes of the second half, Erith were awarded an in direct free kick for carrying by Roberts : Jenner hit the ball straight into the net, but as no other player had touched it, the point could not count, and a goal kick was given. After 25 minutes, ALDOUS went through for Erith and scored with a long low drive to reduce their arrears.

Five minutes later, Griffiths again put Cochrane away. He shot, and Aldous deflected the ball past Day to make the score 3-1. Within two minutes Erith scored again : they got away on the right and with the Green\'s defence in a tangle, REAY netted for the 'Deres.

A few minutes before the close Cochrane broke away on the left and passed in to AVIS, who went on to score the Green's fourth with a good effort,.
