Match Report

Hendon put aside their poor league form to put four goals past a disappointing Arlesey Town at Claremont Road on Saturday afternoon, keeping a clean sheet in the process to progress into the next round of the FA Cup.

Manager Gary McCann made two changes to the starting line up bringing in Wayne O'Sullivan for Gary Hoy and Jermaine Hunter for Takumi Ake.

The Greens started positively and were rewarded when the opening goal came in the 4th minute when Dean Green opened his account for the club from close range following a headed effort towards goal from Lee O'Leary.

Shortly afterwards O'Leary was unfortunate to see his headed effort go narrowly wide whilst Ross Pickett headed over the bar in the 18th minute. Arlesey then had a free-kick about 25 yards out which flew narrowly over the bar but it was Hendon who were in control of the game.

O'Sullivan came close to scoring in the 28th minute but his shot wasn't powerful enough to beat Jack Rashid in the Arlesey goal, but just seven minutes later a cross from O'Sullivan eluded Hunter, and also bizarrely eluded Rashid and bounced into the net at the far post. In all honesty Rashid really should have saved the goal easily.

The Greens opened the second half in similar fashion and both James Burgess and Hunter had good chances to extend the lead early on in the period. It didn't take long however for the Greens to further extend their lead when O'Leary finished clinically after being put clear by a great ball over the defence by O'Sullivan. The goal came in the 56th minute.

A minute later, Michael McKenzie had a great chance for Arlesey but veteran keeper Richard Wilmot pulled off a fantastic point blank save for Hendon. The Bedfordshire side also had a couple of chances from free kicks but they were unable to find away past Wilmot who was very solid in goal.

The final goal came seven minutes from time when O'Leary broke clear of the defence and unselfishly laid the ball back for Jamie Busby to fire the ball into the net much to the delight of the home support.

Manager Gary McCann was delighted with the result and said "I'm delighted that we have kept a clean sheet as well as performing so well going forward. we now need to impose ourselves in the same way when we return to league action."
