Shoot-out heartbreak for Greens

Hendon took full-time opposition all the way in the London Senior Cup Final this evening at Champion Hill, but paid for their failure to score any of their three spot kicks in the penalty shoot-out.

After a goalless first half, Jayden Clarke produced the standout moment of the match in the 64th minute, latching onto a pass from Kieron Forbes before running into the penalty area, and unleashing an arrowed left-footed strike low beyond the Brentford goalkeeper into the bottom corner.

The lead lasted a quarter of an hour until a free kick midway inside the Hendon half was floated onto the head of Nico Jones, who planted his header beyond Ethan Wady inside the far post.

Both sides gave it absolutely everything and as it looked as though Brentford's superior fitness would make the difference, the Greens dug in superbly to not only restrict them to half-chances, but carry a danger on the break throughout extra time.

Sam Corcoran and Christian Smith both skied their penalties, whilst Joe White saw his saved, meaning that the efforts from Nathan Young-Coombes, Alex Gilbert and Myles Peart-Harris were enough to give Brentford's 'B' side the silverware.
