Tom Lovelock was the hero for the first team tonight as he saved the crucial penalty to ensure a 5-4 penalty shoot-out win in the Middlesex Senior Cup Final following a goalless draw over 90 minutes.

Lovelock, who was also named man of the match, had also made a simply stunning triple save in the dying minutes of the match, made the save from Elliott Buchanan's penalty, which the Staines top scorer needed to net to take the shoot-out into sudden death.

Sam Murphy, Josh Walker, Ashley Nathaniel-George, Daniel Uchechi and Niko Muir all scored in what was a high quality penalty shoot-out.

The game itself was thoroughly enjoyable, despite being goalless, and whilst the defences were largely on top, both sides did get in shots at goal, only to find both keepers in fine form.

The victory is the Greens first Middlesex Senior Cup win since 2004, and the first time the trophy has been won since Gary McCann took over as manager.
