Information for train travellers tomorrow

Network Rail and Govia Thameslink Railway, who run the Southern franchise, have issued some advice for people planning to travel by train tomorrow.

As those who have been following weather forecasts will be aware, Storm Brian is expected to hit the UK over the weekend and gusts of between 40-50mph have been forecast.

As a result a 50mph speed restriction will be imposed between 10:00 and 22:00 tomorrow on some lines including coastal services operated by Southern. The main line between Brighton and London Victoria is not currently listed as having any speed restrictions imposed.

Also, delays may be caused if trees fall on the line, and by the expected heavy leaf fall which when impacted turns the track into a Teflon like layer on the rails meaning drivers have to break earlier than normal. Network Rail will be running railhead treatment trains overnight to help keep the rails clear.

We would advise supporters to check National Rail Enquiries before you travel to Worthing, and allow extra time for your journey if possible.
