Gary McCann was pleased with the victory over playoff chasing Needham Market on Saturday afternoon. He said, “We were very good value for the win and probably should have won by more than one goal.

"After the Leatherhead game, we had a very light session on Tuesday and we then had very good preparation for the game on Saturday when we had a functional session on Thursday, working on some offensive ideas. As disappointing as a result it was at Leatherhead - the efforts of the two previous games really caught up with the players - I was very confident of a good performance against Needham Market.

"Our play from midfield to the final third was excellent, and if I have to be critical, our finishing did not match the approach play. Some of it goes down to the good work by their goalkeeper, who made three or four good saves, but we should have been more clinical and efficient. Defensively again we were resilient.

"We had to be mentally strong after we conceded the goal late on, but we stayed strong and could have added to our total. There was the odd scare at our end, but the team managed the game excellently.

"The League is so competitive this season that any team is capable of beating any other. That is why it is so frustrating that we have done so well against the top teams, but not so effective against the teams around us. We have to stay focused on our own task. We can't afford too many more slip ups like at Leatherhead.

"There are only seven points between the teams in 16th and 23rd and it makes our game at Sudbury next Saturday so important. If we can win that match, we will be on target for the points total I challenged the players to achieve a few weeks ago."
