One game to go

With the Greens winning 2-0 at Staines Town this afternoon, Ashford Town (Middx) losing 3-1 at East Thurrock United and Tonbridge Angels only drawing 1-1 with AFC Hornchurch, all that is needed next weekend to secure a place in the play-offs is a win against Wealdstone, whilst hoping that Ramsgate either drop points or are unable to make up the 4 goal difference between us and them if they beat Boreham Wood.

At the other end of the table, there are still three relegation spots up for grabs. Our opponents next weekend, Wealdstone, will be safe if Folkestone drop points against AFC Hornchurch on Monday evening. Folkestone are the only team in the bottom three that can catch Wealdstone, but they play Maidstone United next Saturday. Should Folkestone fail to win on Monday, it is then impossible for both Maidstone and Folkestone to overtake our local rivals regardless of the results on Saturday afternoon. We will update you on this situation again on Monday evening after the Folkestone v AFC Hornchurch game has been played.

Going back to this afternoon's game, the Greens put in a superb performance after a poor opening fifteen minutes, and Davis Haule opened the scoring with a fine finish with Hendon's first chance of the game. From there on, Hendon always looked like the most likely winners and secured the points ten minutes from time when a 30 yard drive from Jack Page was deflected into the net by Danny Gordon, the goal being awarded to the Leyton Orient youngster -his first goal in a Hendon shirt. The result means that the Greens go into Tuesday evening's London Senior Cup final high in confidence.
