Hendon put in a very solid performance this afternoon to defeat title challengers AFC Hornchurch 2-0 at Vale Farm.

The Urchins had the better of the opening 20 minutes, but the Greens came into the game and gradually put more pressure on the visiting defence. Shortly after Carl McCluskey had a header well saved, Elliott Charles was able to bundle the ball home from close range from a corner, right on the stroke of half-time.

The second half was largely even, but the Greens defence, along with the returning Rikki Banks in goal, were able to deal with any Hornchurch chances comfortably. The second goal came deep into second half stoppage time when a clearance fell into the path of Isaiah Rankin, and he beat his defender and was able to fire the ball home from 20 yards.

The result moves Hendon back into 5th place, behind Bury on goal difference.
