Hendon won at Southend Manor in todays FA Cup game, but the victory was far from comfortable. Southend caused numerous problems in the first half for Hendon, with Hendon also causing a few for Southend, before Paul Towler headed a 40th minute goal for the Greens. However, the Manor continued to cause problems, with Sean Wright finally scoring with a blistering strike from outside the area. Hearts went into Hendon mouths as Southend continued to go close, but sustained pressure in stoppage time told for the Dons, as Watson broke clear and lobbed Karraer in the 95th minute. A further five minutes of stoppage time left Hendon fans worrying, but Hendon comfortably held out to the end of the game. Dave Anderson admitted after the game that it wasn't as comfortable as he would have liked, but pointed out that "the important thing was that we won".
